Resource Teacher

Hello! My name is Danya Pratt and I am one of the Resource Teachers here at Burton Middle School. This is my 10th year in the district. I was a resource teacher at William R. Buckley Elementary for 6 years and before that I was at Jim Maples Academy for 3 years.

I was born in Salt Lake City Utah and grew up in Colorado, Utah and California. I graduated from High School in Arroyo Grande, CA and attended college in Los Angeles. I originally received a bachelor’s degree in Business and went to work for May Co. for several years before finding my way to education by becoming a School Secretary. I fell in love with the kids and began attending school in Colorado for my teaching certification. I finished my credential at Chapman University and received a duel credential in both Multiple Subjects and Special Education Mild/Moderate.

My goal in teaching is to teach the whole child, not just fill children’s heads with information. I will try to create a safe environment where a child will feel comfortable taking risks and will be engaged in the curriculum. I will try to blend the standards to student’s interests and apply the information taught to their daily lives. I hope that my students leave my classroom with the tools to succeed in the rest of their educational and post school lives.
