My name is Mitzie Styles and I am principal of Jim Maples Academy. Jim Maples Academy (JMA) is a new K-6 school serving the Burton School District.

I have spent 24 years at Burton School District. I started as an instructional aide at Oak Grove Elementary before getting my teaching credential in 1994. I was hired as a Special Education teacher and then became a Reading Specialist for the district. I also spent many years in the classroom and found a passion for teaching students to read and helping struggling readers.

The last several years I have been at the district level in the area of curriculum as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. I spent several years training teachers, coaching and building a curriculum center. I continue to be involved with our coaching staff and district curriculum needs.

It is an exciting opportunity to serve Jim Maples Academy as Principal and I appreciate the challenge! I am humbled by the privilege. We have a wonderful year planned for JMA families and we can’t wait to embark upon this exciting journey!

Hello Jim Maples Academy families! My name is Jennifer Gamble and this year I will be the Mentor Teacher on campus.  I am really looking forward to working with the amazing staff and students at JMA.

I was born and raised right here in Porterville! I attended Burton School District schools from kindergarten through 8th grade and graduated from Monache High School. I earned my bachelors in Art History from the University of California, Berkeley (Go Bears!) in 2003, and after getting married, decided to move back home. I come from a family of teachers who have dedicated many wonderful years to the profession, so becoming a teacher was an easy choice! I earned my teaching credential and Masters in Education both from the University of La Verne.

I believe that engaging students in learning goes far beyond the use of a textbook, paper, and pencil, and I am very excited to have the One to World iPad Program at JMA. I am excited to help all of the students as they begin their journey of becoming digitally literate in a world where these skills are increasingly critical to success in their future careers. It is important to me that each and every student enters JMA feeling safe and ready to learn and take risks while learning. I believe that learning should be fun and I want every instructional minute to be appealing to students and to reach their different levels and ways of learning.

Hello! I am the secretary at Jim Maples Academy. I have been with the Burton School District for 17 years. My husband; Fred and I moved from the Los Angeles area to the Central Valley in 1989 to start a family and raise our children in a small community with a hometown feel. We had our daughter Sabrina Ziegler in 1990, and our son Aaron Ziegler in 1992. I was a “stay home mom” as they were growing up until my son Aaron started Kindergarten. I therefore started working part time as a classified aide at Oak Grove Elementary where both my children attended.  I loved working with kids and also getting to know my own childrens friends and developed some tight bonds with them. In 1998 I was blessed with another son Branden Ziegler who is now a Junior at PHS. I am very proud of each of my children as they have grown to become responsible young adults and teenager. Sabrina graduated from Granite Hills High School with honors. She was a dance teacher at Deenies Dance and also a freelance reporter for the Porterville Recorder. She gained many scholarships through school and the Miss America Organization that helped put her through college at CSUB. She was Miss Tulare County in 2011 and Miss Golden Empire/Kern County in 2012. She had the opportunity to run for Miss California twice and gained many lasting friendships and quality mentoring and coaching that has helped her be who she is today. She is now living and working in Dallas, Texas as a financial service/insurance field associate at one of the largest growing insurance companies PHP (People Helping People). My son Aaron graduated Monache High School and will be graduating from Porterville College next year. He has completed his Law enforcement courses and is going through the hiring process for the Tulare Sheriff’s Department. He is the proud dad of Derrick Ziegler who is in 1st grade at BES. Branden loves playing football and doing MMA training with his brother. He plans to join the military (Marines or Air Force) as soon as he graduates from Porterville High School in 2016. I am a proud “Mema” as my grandson calls me. I enjoy spending my lunch break with him at BES and getting to know his friends and developing strong bonds with them.

Before I moved to Porterville I worked as a secretary in Burbank California. Ever since I started having kids and working in the school district my passion has been working with children. I’ve been an aide, cashier in the cafeteria and worked with EL students from K-5th grade for 13 years before I took a job at BES as a clerk in the office. I came to JMA in October of 2010 and have been here since. I absolutely love working in the office because I get to interact with the kids as well as with all the wonderful staff and parents. I look forward to coming to work each day and I’m so grateful for each and every experience I’ve had in the Burton School District.
